The short story is one of the most exciting and challenging forms in literature. This workshop is designed to introduce the emerging writer to the short story, provide them with practical tools for writing, while maintaining a supportive and dynamic environment that encourages authenticity, boldness, and originality. Through workshopping, readings of classical and modern stories and guided exercises, students will learn the foundations of the short story, acquire techniques for editing, rewriting and critiquing, and experiment with new and creative ways to write.
Ayelet Tsabari is the author of the memoir in essays The Art of Leaving, winner of the Canadian Jewish Literary Awards, and The Best Place on Earth, winner of the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature and the Edward Lewis Wallant Award for Jewish Fiction. The book was a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, Kirkus Review’s Best Debut Fiction of 2016, was nominated for The Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, and has been published internationally to great acclaim.
